Fettes College crowned winners at the Independent Schools of the Year 2019 awards

We are so proud of the continual work we do on our student wellbeing but to have it recognised by the Independent School Parent awards alongside our healthy eating offering, is testament to the fact that hard work pays off.

We are absolutely delighted to win both of these awards as we are committed to all aspects of student wellbeing, from healthy eating to mental health.

Our catering team pride themselves on making food which is wholesome, flavoursome and fun with our 2,000 daily meals created on-site with great care and crafted to reflect best nutritional practice and embrace pupil opinion.

James Wood, Catering Manager, said:

“We are delighted to receive this award, it recognises the efforts of our catering team in ensuring that our healthy and balanced food offering matches, the vibrant and healthy lifestyle of the wider school”.

We also believe that only happy students learn and therefore we focus on the mental and physical wellbeing through our rigorous, responsive and varied PSE programme whilst nurturing a strong, welcoming and inclusive community. When things go wrong, there is a supportive network to discuss, identify, intervene and assist without stigma.

Sue Bruce, Head of PSE, expressed:

"We are delighted we have been awarded the Independent School of the Year Student Wellbeing Award. The wellbeing of our pupils is at the heart of our school and ensures they are physically, mentally and emotionally well in order for them to thrive in the classroom. We are proud of our pastoral care and believe that our dedicated staff, Medical Centre, PSE teaching and student involvement is integral to this success".

Helen Harrison, Head, said:

"Healthy eating and the wellbeing of all our students is an essential part of an education here at Fettes and we are incredibly proud to be the winners for these two awards. These accolades reflect all the hard work, passion and dedication of our staff and students. We will continue to strive to be the best; supporting each and every one of our students".
