This year’s Orchestra Day for Prep Schools was again a resounding success, with over 80 musicians coming together from four Prep Schools, all playing, singing, laughing and working together and proving that the collaborative experience can be made stronger through forging musical relationships and as well as friendships. Maestro and Director of Music at Fettes Prep, Mr Pettinger, put pupils from Cargilfield, Mowden Hall, St. Mary’s Melrose and Fettes Prep through their paces in learning Brahms’ ‘Hungarian Rhapsody No 5’ and an arrangement of Rossini’s ‘William Tell’ Overture. If that was not enough, the pupils proved themselves equally adept at learning a new choral repertoire as Director of Music at Fettes College, Mr Tully, led them through a specially arranged version of Avicii’s ‘Without You’. All pieces were performed in an afternoon concert with precision and musicality that brought smiles and great applause from the large and appreciative audience of parents and staff. The afternoon concert also included exquisite performances from Fettes College students - Anton P delivered a refined J. S. Bach Solo Violin movement and Aidan C performed a Chopin Waltz.
