The Forty Club have selected the Fettes College 1st XI as their School of the year (Scotland) and two Fettes representatives will be presented with a Forty Club Shield presented at the Annual Dinner in the Long Room at Lords on Friday 14th November. This is a tremendous accolade and an outstanding opportunity for the student attending this prestigious event at Lords. The Forty Club was established in 1936 and plays matches against schools with its aim to ‘take cricket to schools’.
The match in May was a thriller with Fettes batting first and scoring 224-4 including 96 from Olly P and a massive 6 over the pavilion from Glen G. The Forty Club responded well and scored 197 – 7 in reply to lose by just 30 runs. Harry Armstrong captained the XI magnificently and the game was played in the Spirit of Cricket.
Director of Sport Mark Appleson says “The XL Club matches are a brilliant opportunity for our boys to see how cricket should be played in a friendly but competitive environment. This year’s match was a classic and proved to be the perfect springboard to a very entertaining season for the 1st XI”.
