The Fettes Community is absolutely thrilled and immensely proud of Jake Wightman’s outstanding success in winning the gold medal in the 1500m at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon last night. To be the first British man to win this world title in 39 years is an amazing achievement. 

A keen runner throughout his four years at Fettes College, Jake won several medals at both internal and external events and was awarded a College Cap for outstanding contribution to athletics and commitment to sporting achievement in 2012, the year he left school.

In recent years Jake has shared his passion for athletics in speaking to both our Prep and Senior School students about his achievements and offering words of encouragement and inspiration.
