Community Engagement Day

On Friday, over 250 of our students took part in our biannual Community Engagement Day. This is a hugely important day in the Fettes calendar and gives our staff and students the opportunity to Give Back by working alongside charities and organisations in our local community. Alongside regular partners including Cyrenians, Vintage Vibes, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Eildon House, Crammond Care Home, St Mary’s (Leith) Primary School, Starbank Park, Flora Stevenson’s Primary School and Pirniehall Nursery, this year we were delighted to welcome many new partners including:

  • Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity
  • Granton Youth
  • Muirhouse Youth Development Group
  • Pilton Retreat
  • Crewe Road Nursery
  • Inverleith Park
  • Water of Leith Conservation Trust
  • Haugh House Care Home
  • “We really appreciated how engaged the students were and the thought given to how you can support children in hospital. The art pack mock-ups were seriously impressive and aligned well with what our Wellbeing Team would usually give out to young patients. Well done to the team!” Edinburgh Childrens’ Hospital Charity

“Thank you for today, the volunteers were so efficient - I had to find other things for them to do! It was a massive help in preparation for our reading event next month.” LifeCare Community Centre

“We had a lovely session today! The young people were really great and we achieved so much!” Water of Leith Conservation Trust

“We were astounded by the creativity and efforts that the students applied, and know that thanks to their hard work isolated older people in Edinburgh are going to have a wonderful, unique experience as part of our 10th Birthday celebrations. Thank you!” Vintage Vibes

ring the day a further group of L6 students undertook training for our newly expanded weekly volunteering programme which is curated to align to student interests allowing them to have an enriched and meaningful experience while giving back to others in an area where they feel passionate about. Over 20 students learnt the basics of how to teach English as an Additional Language to support our work with refugees and asylum seekers, and a further 15 students completed a workshop led by the volunteer co-ordinator for all North Edinburgh youth groups.
