Football

Fettes 5 - 6 Merchiston

In a nail-biting game that embraced all out attacking, Fettes and Merchiston played a cracker of a match at Ainslie Park – current home of Scottish League Two side Edinburgh City. A hat trick from Guy M, an extremely well taken goal from Marco D and a 35 yard shot from David D showed off the attacking talent in the squad. For the first match of the term – with a number of new boys in the squad – there is much to be optimistic about. With a UEFA A License coach coming in to run sessions, there can only be an upward trajectory. The Scottish Independent Schools FA Cup matches start next week and the Fettes 1st XI squad can go into the group stages with optimism.

Lacrosse

Fettes 16 - 7 Thistle

The 1st X Lacrosse had a superb start to their season with a strong victory against Thistle. This was the team’s first competitive fixture playing the new 10-aside rules, and their nerves got to them in the first quarter with Thistle taking an early lead. Nevertheless, they soon found their confidence and played their hearts out for the rest of the game, scoring a myriad of goals from impressive drives by the midfield and some pinpoint passes from behind goal. Special mention must go to Lulu M, Jess A, Connie G and Zara W who all put in a strong goal-scoring performance in their debut game for the 1st X.

2nd X, U15B, U14A, U14B and 3rd X

Last Saturday was an extremely busy afternoon with a host of Lacrosse fixtures taking place across all age groups. The 2nd X, U15B, U14A and U14B all played a triangular against Glenalmond and Loretto, and the 3rd X played a match against Loretto. Highlights included a decisive 17-1 victory for the 3rd X demonstrating just how competitive this senior team is, as well as wins across the board for the U14 teams. The girls played excellently despite the heavens opening, and it was wonderful to see so much skilful lacrosse being played on home turf.

Hockey

Fettes 2 - 2 ESMS

Fettes and Stewart’s Melville 1st XI games are always tight contests and this was no exception. This was a fast-paced and physical game and really highlighted the hockey talents from both teams. Fettes went 2-0 up with Olly P scoring both goals. His second was an outstanding reverse stick finish following a through ball from Archie S.  Stewart’s Melville then got themselves back in to the game with a well taken corner and field goal. At half time the score was 2-2 and although both sides had good chances with Matthew H and Xavax C both coming close to scoring there were no more goals. Following the game both sides took five running penalties with Fettes coming out on top 3-2 after some great saves from Dom T.

Fettes 1st XI 9 - 1 Robert Gordons

The 1st XI started off poorly conceding an early goal but this was a wake up call and the boys responded positively to this.  A focus of training over the last few weeks has been goal scoring and how we create attacking opportunities. The team transferred this brilliantly in to the game and scored some excellent team goals. Oliver P was on fine form up front and scored a number of very well taken goals. The defence, after their early scare, were very solid and we distributed the ball with confidence from the back.

Junior Colts 10 - 1 Robert Gordons

The Junior Colts had a very clinical performance and also scored a number of well taken team goals. Oleksandr K and Will H were the team’s top goal scorers. Patrick T stepped up from the Bs and had an excellent performance for his first game in the team and deservedly received the MVP award.

Netball

Fettes 1st VII 17 - 34 Strathallan

Strathallan are always a tough opposition however the team went in with a positive mindset. The first quarter was intense; however, we countered their strong attack with pressure from our defensive players keeping the goal difference low. The first quarter finished with 6-9 to Strathallan, meaning we went into second quarter wanting to close the gap. The moral of the team was impressive as we were determined to put up a strong fight. Throughout the game there were high levels of intensity and movement allowing for some beautiful interceptions followed by strong passes back into the goal D. The final score was a great improvement from our game against Strathallan earlier in the season and I just want to congratulate the entire team on the both the resilience they showed as well as the progress they have made individually and as a team!  A special mention goes to Kate R for her strong defensive pressure and helping move the ball through the mid-court effectively.

Fettes 2nd VII 9 - 27 Strathallan

This was a disappointing game for us, however, despite the score, we still played well as a team and put all our training skills we have been working on into practice.  This game has highlighting things that we need to work on, which is good for us to be able to improve. A special mention goes to Bella F for her good leads at the centre and for her good passes into the D.

Fettes 3rd VII 10 - 22 Strathallan

We started off strong in this match however as the game progressed we started to get tire and keep possession of the ball . This match highlighted that we need to make sure we take our time and play more tactically. A special mention goes to Maria W.
