Last Thursday, the Fifth Form Classical Civilisation students enjoyed celebrating their own Saturnalia. This came as a reward for finishing their Festivals topic in the Myth and Religion syllabus for GCSE. This lesson helped with revising the earlier topic of Temples and Sacrifice, as well as giving them the opportunity to experience some Covid-friendly festivities.
The Saturnalia was particularly enjoyed by slaves in ancient Rome as it was the only time of the year where they were treated as equal citizens; they were even served their food before the masters! Everyone enjoyed the feast provided by the Senate (Miss Synge) along with playing games in the form of revision Kahoot quizzes.
* Note relaxed uniform due to celebrating the Festival.
