This weekend, a group of enthusiastic Fettes Third-Form students undertook their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award training in Aberfeldy and Killin's scenic areas. The training provided a valuable opportunity for our students to develop teamwork, navigation, and self-reliance skills in a challenging yet rewarding outdoor environment.

The planned routes incorporated elements of the varied terrain characteristic of the Perthshire Highlands, including woodland paths, open moorland, and riverside trails. Participants navigated between pre-determined checkpoints, demonstrating their map-reading and compass skills.

While the weather presented some typical Scottish conditions—including periods of sunshine combined with blustery showers—the teams demonstrated resilience and maintained a positive attitude throughout. They successfully camped overnight, putting their camp craft skills into practice.

The students worked effectively within their teams, supporting each other and making collaborative decisions. They demonstrated strong communication and problem-solving as they navigated the route and managed their equipment.

Overall, the Bronze DofE training was a successful experience for all involved. The students demonstrated significant progress in their personal development and gained valuable life skills through this practical and, for some, adventurous challenge.
