Congratulations to Lower Sixth student Barbora V on being in the top three winners of the Yale International Relations Association Global Essay Competition 2025; and one of only two students from the UK (and the only one in Scotland) in the top 50 finalists from across the world.  A fantastic achievement! 

Barbora was awarded 3^rd Place in this prestigious global competition for outstanding analysis and insight in her essay on The Next 50 Years: Advancing Sustainability and Democracy Through Global Cooperation. ‘This achievement reflects exceptional understanding of International Relations and Global Issues, demonstrating critical thinking, originality, and a deep engagement with global affairs.’

As one of our IB Global Politics students, Barbora is studying a course pioneered in Scotland 10 years ago and in which Fettes has an excellent track record, with 100% of our students gaining level 7/6 grades (A*/A) exam results.  The course offers an introduction to International Relations, looking at issues including sovereignty, global governance, human rights, development, and conflict – giving our students an excellent springboard to further study International Relations and explore career opportunities.
