Art Workshop for Prep Schools

It was an exciting morning for us yesterday as we welcomed 45 pupils from Craigclowan, Cargilfield, St Mary’s Melrose and Fettes Prep School to our Art department.

Inspired by the artist Robert Rauschenberg the pupils had a chance to move through a cycle of workshops in drawing, print and 3D and by lunch time we were able to enjoy viewing their work in exhibition. The morning was fast paced and energetic, and it was great to see the pupils embrace Rauschenberg’s experimental approach to layering imagery and objects. The exhibition was packed with exciting collages, layered drawings and mini ‘Combines’. The pupils also contributed to a collaborative print, inspired by Rauschenberg’s famous tyre print, using toy pushback cars rather than John Cage’s automobile. Great fun was had by all!
