A memorable Burns Supper

On Saturday night, more than 500 members of the Fettes community gathered to celebrate Burns Night. The Dining Hall was filled to capacity with excited students and staff, all of whom were treated to a wonderful evening of food, music, and tradition.

Our Chaplain, Mr McDowell, presided over the festivities, opening the evening with the Selkirk Grace before Harry SC piped in the Haggis. Douglas G delivered a superb Address to the Haggis, after which everyone settled down to enjoy a magnificent meal.

Entertainment followed swiftly after dessert. Matteo C and Edward L opened the programme with a lively fiddle jig, setting the tone beautifully. Members of the Chapel Choir then encouraged enthusiastic audience participation, before Pipe Major Harry SC was joined by Edgar F‑W, Tom W, and Ramsay F for a short but impressive set.

Mr McDowell returned to the stage to deliver a brilliantly crafted Immortal Memory, weaving in modern references to Taylor Swift to the great delight of the audience. Mr and Mrs Harrison then offered the Toast—an especially poignant moment at their final Burns Supper—which was received with tremendous warmth. The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne, sung with gusto by all.

This was a truly memorable occasion. Huge thanks go to Mr Appleson and Mr Hutchison for their organisation, to the entire catering team for their sterling work, and to all staff who contributed to the success of the night.
