Free Learning Resources

Department Heads from across Fettes have collated a number of recommended, high-quality, FREE resources available to any school-age child regardless of where they go to school. We have suggestions across the Scottish and English Curricula and ideas for children aged 5-18 covering every school subject.    

You may not be physically in school but that doesn’t mean the learning has to stop. Why not use the current time you are spending at home to enlist on some fascinating free courses that could spark a new passion or simply make you feel more confident about a topic you are currently working on.

Head over to Class Central where they have collated a constantly updated list of FREE courses from world leading institutions including Ivy League universities such as Harvard & MIT.  


A wealth of courses from world-leading organisations. Learn Fashion as Design by MOMA or Private Equity & Venture Capital from Bocconi University and hundreds of other fascinating options.

From law to literature, study skills to IT, there are thousands of free courses available. Their special COVID 19 Boredom-Busting courses are particularly worth taking a look at with a fantastic range from spy training to learning a new language. 

Khan Academy

An incredible free resource hub for anyone in primary or secondary education. They cover almost every stage and every subject and even have daily lesson plans for children aged 2-18.


Currently FREE with over 3,000 courses from 400 institutions covering fascinating topics across English literature, psychology, philosophy, government & politics and history.


The National Library of Scotland has an exceptional array of primary and secondary resources particularly brilliant for history projects or to simply find out a little more about wonderful Scotland!


An incredible range of free courses ranging from aquatic mammals to Managing Money for Young Adults, life skills and academic insights are available whatever your field of interest.

Seneca Learning

This highly interactive learning experience has had over 1 billion questions answered by students to date so it must be pretty good! Suitable for all ages groups (with a GCSE & A-level focus) across a very wide range of subjects.


Online events and discussions promoting female involvement in STEM subjects. Hear from role-models, take part in live Q&As and watch Instagram Live videos too.
