On the 19^th July 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, there wasn’t a person on the planet quicker than Jake Wightman in running 1500m.  

It was a great pleasure to welcome OF Jake Wightman back to Fettes College to share highlights of his athletics journey with our students, from school all the way to his phenomenal recent World Championships gold medal.

Jake’s advice to our students was:

·      Don’t rush into specialising in one sport too early.

·      Keep a wide sporting base for as long as possible.

·      Making sacrifices to achieve your goals is part of being an elite athlete.

·      Understanding the small and mundane parts of training are important to gaining the edge in athletics.

We will again be cheering for Jake later this year when he is back on the track competing in the indoor championship.
