Fettes College is delighted to announce that Helen Harrison has been officially confirmed as Head of Fettes College making her the 11th Head in the College’s 150 year history. Mrs Harrison, previously Deputy Head with over 24 years of teaching experience at Fettes, has been leading Fettes since June 2019 and will now continue to take Fettes forward ably supported by her husband Rob.

Last summer, when Mrs Harrison was appointed Head, the Governors and Mrs Harrison agreed that it was prudent for her appointment to be for an initial period of two years, with a review proposed for May 2020. In the light of recent events that review was brought forward to coincide with the start of term.

“Everything that the Governors have heard and seen confirms our unanimous view that Helen has displayed remarkable powers of leadership and grace under pressure since her appointment and most especially since the onset of the pandemic. We feel that we are very fortunate to have Helen as Head of Fettes College and I am delighted to be able to announce that we have confirmed her in post for the foreseeable future.” Michael Osborne, Chairman of the Board of Governors

“I am honoured to have been confirmed in post as the Head of Fettes. The response of the whole community to the current unsettled and difficult times underlines to me what an incredible school I have the privilege to lead. Everyone is working so hard to make the best out of this situation and I am grateful to pupils and all staff, both teaching and operational, for embracing this new way of working. No matter how well we are all coping, I cannot wait to have Fettesians back where they should be; in Houses with their friends, in classes with their inspirational and dedicated teachers, on the sports pitches playing for their school and squeezed into Chapel, singing loudly. I look forward to leading this fantastic community into the next exciting phase of the school’s history.” Helen Harrison, Head of Fettes College

The Fettes community of parents, students, staff, Old Fettesians and friends alike are so pleased with this news which provides some real positivity in uncertain times.
