As we are all Learning From Home, our annual Careers Day for the Lower Sixth has been split into two parts and moved on-line. In order to make the content relevant and interesting, we reached out to the Fettes community to ask for first-hand expertise and advice on this year’s Careers Day topics: How to shape your future, building interpersonal skills and fill your time productively.

We are so grateful for the wonderful support that we have received from Old Fettesians and from current parents who sent us videos or participated in panel conversations.

This two-part programme includes sessions on choosing the right course at university, thought-provoking panel conversations about starting your career journey and honest thoughts of many of or recent leaving Old Fettesians about gap years and the transition from school to uni.

Today our Lower Sixth Form are immersing themselves in the second part of our virtual Careers Day with the content going to their parents. The content is also being shared with S5 and S6 pupils at Edinburgh high schools who would normally have joined us on campus for this informative Careers Day.

“Our annual Careers Day is an important part of the wider careers curriculum at Fettes. At the Lower Sixth stage it is so important that pupils gather their thoughts in preparation to step beyond the classroom. I am so grateful that we have been able to create a vibrant range of messages that can be viewed from home whilst we are away from school.  We are so grateful to our many contributors for providing such relevant content for our pupils at this time.

Caroline Davies, Head of Careers and Teacher of Modern Languages

I am immensely grateful to everyone in the Fettes community who has helped with this wonderful project.  Your supportive messages and insights will be an inspiration to all the young people who watch the array of fascinating Careers Day content on offer.  Fettes truly is a family for life and the fact that we have received such a wonderful response to our requests for help with this, and many other Fettes Career Partnership initiatives, is testament to that.”
