On Tuesday 28th February, twenty of our students took the opportunity to find out more about careers with law.  They took time to chat in small informal groups with our experts who had kindly volunteered to join us for the evening. The informal format enabled students to ask questions and explore different aspects of the law and the legal profession to help them to develop their knowledge and understanding of this wide reaching career area.

Navraj Ghaleigh, Senior Lecturer in Climate Law at the University of Edinburgh talked about his professional career as a Barrister as well as the academic side of law, particularly with regards to climate.

Betina Russell, Legal Counsel for a German firm provided an international dimension as well as offering insight into life as an in-house lawyer. She also covered the important area of global data protection.

William Frain-Bell - Barrister at both Thomas More Chambers in London and at Terra Firma Chambers in Edinburgh provided a fascinating overview on the different fields of law and the role and function of a Barrister.  Students asked him lots of questions about the qualification paths into law as well as enquiring about typical working day and case lengths / lawyers roles and functions.

Everyone who attended was extremely grateful for the opportunity to talk to these fascinating professionals. The insights that they provided enriched everyone’s knowledge helping them to develop their own thoughts on their preferred career path ahead.
