It was such a pleasure to gather Old Fettesians from the North East of England together at the Northumberland Golf Club for good food and conversation on Friday 21st January.
This was not only the first OF Dinner of 2022 but the first time OFs have been able to gather for dinner in the UK since the pandemic started in March 2020. Spirits were high in Newcastle across the generations, with representation from 1951 through to 2015. Christopher Soutar (Ca 1954-1959) even remembered to treat us to his Fettes socks (see photo).
The dinner began with a brief update from the College by Karen Jones (Ar 1989-1991), Fettes Community Engagement Manager. Iain Nicholson (Ca 1953-1957) delivered very warm words of welcome and friendship and Regional Representative for the North East of England, Alastair Ross (JS-GL 1981-1990) delivered a message of thanks to all who had joined us.
In this the Centenary year of the OFA it is hoped that OFs from the North East will have a further opportunity to get together later in the year for a larger combined dinner with OFs from the North West region and from the Yorkshire region for an Old Fettesian North of England Dinner. Feasibility of location and dates are currently being explored, so watch this space.
