The very first pupils and staff arrived at Fettes on 5th October 1870: 53 boys and seven Masters. One hundred years later, the first girls joined Fettes and now, as we approach our 150th anniversary, we are fully co-educational and flourishing.
We are delighted to announce our plans to celebrate Fettes’150th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of girls joining the College. We hope that many Old Fettesians, parents, past and present, and former staff will join in during the academic year 2020-21. A wide range of events are being planned to mark this special occasion.
Fettes: Our Place
A beautifully illustrated book sits at the heart of our plans to celebrate the School's 150th anniversary.
This elegant 192 page hardback publication is packed full of Fettes nostalgia, featuring photographs, printed materials and objects from various aspects of life at Fettes over the last 150 years. Admirably combining the past and the present, it depicts much-loved Fettes places and timeless traditions that anyone associated with 'Our Place' will recognise.
It has been extensively researched by College Archivist, Craig Marshall and has been cleverly linked and captioned by Ralph Hughes (Staff 1985–2017). We are exceedingly grateful to them both for their enormous contribution to this wonderful, highly visual publication.
You can pre-order Fettes: Our Place at the discounted cover price of £35 until the 28thJuly and £45 thereafter.
We are always happy to receive Fettes related archival material from any time.
Currently, we are specifically seeking letters which give an insight into life at Fettes over the last 150 years.
If you have access to Fettes related archival material that you would be willing to gift to the school or share on a temporary basis please do get in touch with the Fettes Archivist, Craig Marshall.
