FAQs | COVID-19

Is Fettes now on holiday? When will you reopen?

Fettes College & Fettes Prep are currently on their Easter break, although we are still open and our operational staff are still at work. Given the dynamic nature of COVID-19, we will be monitoring the situation throughout the break and follow all government guidance given to us. At the moment, it is unlikely that we will be able to reopen to pupils in time for the start of the summer term. If that happens, we are already fully prepared for all our pupils to be learning from home.

How will Fettes communicate any news or updates?

We have already been in regular contact with our parents, staff and students via Schoolpost throughout the ongoing COVID-19 developments. Our current parents should therefore ensure they check their SchoolPost emails when they are received.

For prospective families or members of our wider Fettes Family, this page will be updated as required and all our social media accounts will actively keep our community informed. Prospective families can contact our Admissions Team throughout the Easter break and our Alumni can contact the Old Fettesian Coordinator.

What Distance Learning measures do you have in place?

When it is not possible for students to be present on site for long periods, Fettes is committed to ensuring the quality of its education provision is maintained. If we are unable to do face-to-face teaching after the Easter break, rest assured that a comprehensive schedule of learning has already been developed, across College and Prep, and communicated to current parents and pupils.

Our teaching staff and their students will be connected using a number of learning provisions, including pre-recorded tutorials, curated videos, live interactive lessons, podcasts and videoconferencing.

What does Learning from Home mean?

Students will work to a published schedule and will be expected to complete work within specified timeframes. They will have regular contact with teachers electronically and receive feedback on all work submitted. We recommend quiet space within your home with as few distractions as possible. Tutors and house staff will also communicate with students to ensure pastoral continuity.

I am interested in sending my child to Fettes in September 2020. Can I still book a visit?

Although visits are not currently taking place, we want to ensure that you have all the information you require before your child joins us. In this ever-changing situation, we cannot confirm when visits will start again but we ask you to speak to our Admissions Department who can update and advise.

Our website has a wealth of material and films to give you a flavour of Fettes life and Skype calls can be arranged. We look forward to welcoming you to Fettes in the future.

I am an Old Fettesian. Can I visit the campus during the school holidays?

It is always lovely to welcome Old Fettesians back to Fettes but unfortunately, as all visits to the campus are currently not possible, we ask that you communicate with the Old Fettesian Co-ordinator who will be able to advise you further. Simply click here.

What about end of term celebrations?

At the moment, sadly we have no guarantees that these events will take place on the planned dates but rest assured, our leavers matter to us greatly, we will mark their departure from Fettes in style at a future date.
