What's Included
Fees at Fettes College are set only after careful scrutiny by the Board of Governors ensuring that they properly reflect the costs and benefits of an all-round education at the School. The Board seeks, wherever possible, to ensure that the fees cover everything other than elements which are bespoke to an individual. For all students, the following are included in the fees:
- all academic lessons and support
- superb staff to student ratio in the classroom and boarding houses
- 1-2-1 support from a tutor in the senior school
- career support and guidance
- all sports coaching, often from international sportspeople
- travel for school matches
- access to a vibrant visiting speakers' programme
- all meals at school
- flexible wraparound care
- on campus access to NHS doctors and the team of Fettes nurses in our medical centre
- use of all facilities in our 100-acre woodland campus
- participation in our extensive mainstream co-curricular activities programme
- weekend activities programme (which day students are encouraged to attend, in the senior school)
For boarders - 24/7 care, support, flexible wraparound care, and a wide ranging activities programme are all included in the fees.
For day students in our Prep School there is flexible wraparound care available and access to a wide ranging activities programme also included in the fees - families have the option to drop-off as early as 7.45am and to determine the pick-up time that is most convenient for them, on any given week day - with pick-up times ranging from 3.45pm to 6pm and as late as 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
For day students in the Senior School there is flexible wraparound care available Monday to Saturday until 9pm and access to a wide ranging activities programme is also included in the fees.

Extra Items
As stated above, the Board of Governors seeks, wherever possible, to ensure that the fees cover everything other than elements which are specific to an individual. These are termed ‘extras’ and can be broadly categorised into three types: (1) compulsory (such as exam charges) which vary substantially from student to student; (2) non-compulsory but recommended additions to the overall experience (such as Duke of Edinburgh); and (3) truly optional (such as trips, taxi charge etc.). Further details and examples of the extras can be found in our School Handbook.
We endeavour to charge extras only where parents are aware of and expecting them but ask you to note that this will often rely on the student informing parents.
Fee Remissions
We offer remission to the following families:
- If you have two or more children attending Fettes at the same time (5% for your second child, 35% for your third child and 50% for your fourth and any additional children who are on the School roll at the same time.
- We offer a tiered remission to HM Forces families (and Foreign Office families who qualify for CEA) based on year group and rank. This is applied as follows:
- In the Prep School – 15% remission
- In the Senior School – 20% remission (25% remission is available to Lieutenant, Captain, Flight Lieutenant or below.)
- No other remission will be available, and scholarships awarded will be entirely honorary with no financial benefit.
Financial Assistance
Fettes is committed to broadening access to the school by offering means-tested financial support towards the payment of school fees – known as a Bursary. In Scotland, bursaries are entirely different to scholarships. Bursaries are means-tested and can cover up to 100% of fees payable, depending on the financial circumstances of applicants. Given the inclusive nature of the school, consideration will also be given to support towards the cost of essential school equipment and some relevant and educationally focussed trips. There are strict deadlines, each year, for applying for a bursary to Fettes and full details can be found in 'A Guide to Bursaries', or by contacting bursarsoffice@fettes.com
Our full boarding ethos underpins everything we do at Fettes and our fees are a reflection of the importance of providing an all-round educational experience. We constantly strive to deliver the best value for money.
