Lacrosse

Fixtures Results

Lacrosse, which originated hundreds of years ago with the Iroquois Indians, has today developed into a fast paced, high scoring game. Lacrosse is similar to other team sports, though the ball is propelled aerially by the use of a stick. Players must possess speed, agility and strength, as the playing area is not limited by boundaries. Lacrosse was introduced in Edinburgh over a hundred years ago, since when it has spread through the UK, Australia, United States and Canada. Recently it has become popular in Germany, Czechoslovakia and throughout Asia.

Fettes College has established itself as a key exponent of lacrosse in Scotland. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, U-15 and U-14 teams represent the College in a variety of matches and tournaments throughout the Spring Term. The level of interest a pupil demonstrates determines how much time she will dedicate to a weekly training programme; she may want to be a member of a competitive, success-oriented team, or simply be looking for an opportunity for organised exercise and social interaction. Even so, Fettes prides itself on the fact that all teams incorporate all of these elements.

The success that Fettes has achieved through the lacrosse programme promises continued progress in the future. This is due to the help by our dedicated overseas Lacrosse Coach.
In recent years our students have represented Scotland at U-19 level, and performed in the World Cup in Baltimore. This year the majority of the East of Scotland U-15 Lacrosse Team is made up of students from Fettes College. The future for lacrosse at Fettes has seldom, if ever, looked brighter.
