Tidal power for Shetland

Tides
Shetland is a micro-tidal coast, where the influences of swell, wind driven
waves and coastal configuration are the main determinants of water levels on the shore.
Spring tidal range in the western Shetland islands is limited to 1.5 m and
maximum tidal currents on spring tides are generally <0.5ms-1. The
influence of the tide is greatest at locations close to sea level where the
coincidence of spring tides and storm waves can lead to flooding.
