The College maintains, at its own expense, one of the finest buildings in Edinburgh, the Main Building designed by Scottish architect, David Bryce and opened in 1870.
Public access is provided for a range of events, including sports, cultural and recreational activities.
The School Archive which is available for historical and genealogical research.
Charitable Fund Raising by the School Community
During the year, pupils at the School were actively involved in charity fundraising.
£27000 was raided for Maggie‘s Centre, £7k for SCWWID and many smaller fund-raising events took place.
Community Service by Pupils and Staff
Many of our staff are actively involved in educational development work in Scotland. We contribute in many ways to organisations including SEED, SQA, Learning and Teaching Scotland, the GTC, The Schools Inspectorate, the International Baccalaureate, Headmaster‘s Conference, SAT Testing etc
The Community Service programme involving pupils and staff of the school continued, including voluntary work in charity shops, home visiting for the elderly and Riding for the Disabled. Games staff have been regularly involved in District sports training and coaching. Several referee or umpire at local fixtures.
Specific projects involving 6th Formers included:
- 40 Sixth Form Students undertake weekly community service.
- Visiting the elderly in their homes.
- Visiting the elderly in residential homes.
- Doing shopping for the housebound.
- Doing gardening for the elderly.
- Working in Charity Shops.
- Visiting the blind.
- Helping with Riding for the Disabled.
- Supporting Nursery and Primary School staff locally.
- Providing music and conversation for stroke patients.
- Helping in Edinburgh`s Gaelic speaking school.
- Helping in home for elderly Chinese people.
- Pipers play at Western General Hospital Burns` Supper.
- Pipers play at local church services.
- Students help in the Grassmarket Mission.
More generally, we have been involved recently with:
- Assisting at the local Erskine Home for retired members of HM Forces
- Supporting the Sisters of Mercy at St Catherine’s Convent
Volunteering at the Grassmarket Mission - Assisting Sustrans in maintaining a section of the NCN
Volunteering in care support services at the Western General and Royal Victoria Hospitals - Volunteering in care support services at the Ferryfield Aged Care Facility
- Assisting the Forth Estuary Forum in beach cleaning activities
- Assisting the Forth Estuary Forum by the creation and maintenance of a mural on the sea front
- Assisting the Water of Leith Conservation Trust in the maintenance of the walkway
- Assisting the Bethany Christian Trust with their Caring Christmas Trees programme
- Assisting the Bethany Christian Trust in the annual Big Sleepout in aid of their homelessness projects
- Working with children with differently-abled pupils at Oaklands Special School
- Caring for members of the Edinburgh Headway Group – with those who have sustained head injuries
- Supporting people with learning impairment with the Leonard Cheshire Foundation
- Fundraising for and supporting those in the Marie Curie Hospice
