Leadership Camp!
On a sunny Saturday, 14 excited children jumped onto the mini-bus. On the bus there was such a buzz of energy Mr Morrison couldn’t help himself but get really excited as well. Once we had settled in and got to know were most things we needed to use were, we had a yummy packed lunch and somehow Gavin seemed to end up with 5 packets of crisps. Soon, we got started.
The question was ‘What is Leadership?’. We thought about this hard and didn’t want to give any scrappy answers. We were all pleased with ourselves because we all came up with a lot. Next, we did some trust exercises. After some relaxed activities, we got onto two hardcore ones. A number of us linked arms in a circle and one person would have to either break in or break out. Andrew did amazingly well in this exercise. A well-earned break came our way, but it was soon back to action. This activity needed us to go up to the hillside, to do half a number trail and the other half would be on the night walk. After that challenging activity we cooked our evening meal. A decent meal was in front of us after about an hour of cooking.
The next activity was one we had all been looking forward to because it had to do with Drama. Situations were given to us that we had to act out. Johnny seemed to have another idea than the rest of us but made us all burst out with laughter. The bit we had heard about was now coming up. A lot of us were very scared because we had been told the dangers about walking up a hillside in the middle of the night. Mr Rutherford was great at keeping us all really calm. The hardest part was going through the forest and a couple of times we were told to duck down to avoid being seen. I am not going to say anything more about the night walk because you will have to experience it yourself…... 1.30pm we all got to bed, and very soon came Mr Rutherford and Mr Morrison’s snoring.
Waking up to a big bang from the crash of pots we packed up our sleeping bags and camping mats and cooked breakfast. We had some nice activities which were not physical at all. Soon enough came lunch which was gobbled up very quickly. Shortly after we discussed what being a prefect would include. Next was a more challenging activity, which included being on your hands and knees. Unfortunately, all too quickly, it was time to pack up. We were out of the centre and on our way home by around about four. Back in time, we met our parents and went home to our lovely soft beds.
On behalf of Rory, Lorraine, Johnny, Erika, Andrew, Victoria, Cameron M, Daniel, Harry, Gavin, Marie, Susy, Heather, Fiona W, I would like to say a absolutely massive thank you to Mr Morrison, Mrs Soulsby and Mr Rutherford for giving up their weekend to us and teaching so much about what it takes to be a leader. Thank you.
