Choir to Sing at Westminster Abbey!

Choir

The Chapel Choir will be singing at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 26th June at 5.00pm

Being given the opportunity to sing in Westminster Abbey is about as good as it gets. Last term, Dr John Hall, the Dean of Westminster, visited Fettes to preach in College Chapel one Sunday evening. Of course, he heard our Chapel Choir then and we also sent him away with a copy of our recent CD. That was four months ago. Ten days ago, the Music School phone rang and it was the Minor Canons’ Department at WA, inviting us to go to sing Choral Evensong on June 26th whilst the Abbey Choir is away on tour.

Westminster Abbey is one of the world’s great churches, a World Heritage site and a Royal Peculiar, which means that its Dean is answerable only to the Sovereign. It is the site of some of our nation’s most poignant moments. It is also home to what is arguably one of the world’s finest choral music programmes and one of the country’s most exciting organs. Being afforded the opportunity to go to sing the daily Office of Choral Evensong there in the absence of the resident choir in this way gives our Chapel Choir a rare (and possibly a once in a lifetime) opportunity to make music in that incredible space. We have been presented with a very great privilege, and it promises to be quite a day out!

Evensong is open to all and we would encourage anyone with a connection to Fettes to attend this wonderful concert. It will commence at 5.00pm.
