Chapel Week

Chapel

This week, College East have been speaking in chapel about the Olympics and their sister event, the Para-Olympics. We were thinking about the motivation behind sport and the idea of unity between countries, which the Olympics bring to the world, despite current international disputes. We also spoke about the history of the Olympics and the determination of the athletes to achieve the best they can.

On Monday Ele and Susie spoke about the history of the games, originating from ancient Greece and how the events and the number of countries taking part has changed. This was followed by Molly M and Molly M looking further into the subject of the Para-Olympics and how these have broadened the horizons for many disabled competitors.

Finally Cat and Carla talked about the motivation of the athletes competing, especially looking at Para-Olympians who have used the struggles with their body and changed these for the better. Their bodies now work with them and achieve something which they may never have seen themselves doing when first diagnosed with their disability.

Even though this was a very short week in chapel for College East we have greatly enjoyed listening to the members of the House who offered to speak in front of the whole school, which at times may be very daunting.
