Brilliance at Bisley

Bisley 2010 2

This year Fettes took a small, enthusiastic team to Bisley with a great deal of success. Elliot G and Ian B shot extremely well and consistently, reaching prize lists of the top 50, out of 700 competitors. As 5th Formers, and in open competition with Under 19s, these are excellent placings.

Captain Marcus L had a problematic rifle, only managing to show his true form on the last day, when he too scored highly. In the team matches, the Fettes team came 5th which is a superb result - Alex F did impressively for a first Bisley, and shows promise for next year.

In the Spencer-Mellish competition, Elliot G was selected to shoot for Fettes against the best from over 70 schools, and took the Silver medal – an outstanding result.Overall in 2009, a larger team achieved 5 high scores, over the Bisley Week. This year, with just 5 pupils, they achieved 46 high scores – an improvement of over 900%!

With no leavers in the team, and some excellent beginners coming up through the middle school, there are strong hopes for next year’s Bisley squad

The Imperial Meeting

Elliot G and Ian B stayed on for the second week at Bisley, to enter the Imperial Meeting, shooting against adult teams from all over the world - the first time Fettes pupils have done this for many years.

Ian made it into the top 100 out of more than a thousand competitors, at 900 yards, and was selected as Adjutant for the GB cadet long-range team, finishing the week with a perfect score.

Elliot shot consistently well through the week, often beating those with more experience. Both ended up with very creditable placings on the international ranking. Very well done to all who took part.
