Arran and Iona Explore Edinburgh

Arran and Iona Edinburgh trip

At 1:00 o’clock we boarded the bus from Westwoods to go to Princes Street were we would board a tour bus to visit iconic and unfamiliar places in and around Edinburgh. On the bus we could listen to a selection of audio channels. The majority of us listened to the Horrible Histories channel but of course there were the few people who listened to it in Chinese even though it was apparent that they couldn’t understand it! The first time we got off the tour bus was at Greyfriars to visit the statue of the sad but true story of Bobby the dog who, when its owner died, it sat and stayed by his grave for twelve years. In the grave yard of Bobby’s owner there is said to be a ghost as well that if you bump into at night in the graveyard you get nasty bruises and scratches on your arms.

We got back on the tour bus to once again listen to the audio channels. The last time we got off the tour bus was at Calton Hill to see the unfinished National Monument that was supposed to be when finished an exact replica of the Parthenon in Greece as a memorial to the people who died in the Napoleonic Wars. It wasn’t finished because Edinburgh ran out of funding, however it was great fun climbing up the giant steps. We also had the chance of seeing the Nelson’s Monument which was once used to tell sailors at the port of Leith when to set their watches for sailing at one o’clock along with the one o’clock cannon fire and having a look at the 1st observatory in Edinburgh.

Soon after visiting a cannon we decided to travel back to school after a packed day.
