3 Peaks in under 24hrs
The Three Peaks Team (Barney W, Geordie M and James G) returned home on Friday evening having successfully completed the Three Peaks in under 24 hours. Climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 20 hours took a great deal of effort and determination and the three Moredun men managed to beat Kimmerghame back to the bottom of Snowdon, winning the “D and D Cup.”
Starting on Ben Nevis at 5.30pm they made excellent progress, climbing to the summit and back in 3hrs 5mins. A drive round to Scafell in the Lake District saw an early morning start (3.25am!!) in the pouring rain and pitch black. The team did superbly to complete the climb in just over 2hrs 40 mins and allowed us to leave Wasdale before 7am, giving us plenty of time to get to Snowdon.
An 11.30am start meant we had time on our side but the guys yet again climbed superbly, returning to the minibus at 1.48pm and successfully completing their Three Peaks Challenge. It was a great trip – many thanks to Kimmerghame for being such excellent team-mates to run with: the result didn’t really matter – the fact we all completed the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales was the target. And so to next year! Can we go under 20hrs??
