Tourists could have been forgiven for thinking that they had got on to the
wrong plane and ended up stateside today.
The stars and stripes flew proudly over Fettes College in Edinburgh as Americans in Scotland celebrated US Independence Day.
Around 2000 people joined in the 4th of July party - aided by all-American institutions like apple pie and Mickey Mouse - to celebrate the bicentennial of the consulate.
Ex-pat Americans had a star-spangled time with a programme of line dancing, Motown sounds and the Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band, complete with cheerleaders.
US Consul Cathy Hurst described the event as a "melting pot of American pie and the cream of Scotland."
"Fettes is a wonderful venue for us and I'm sure that the line-up of cheerleaders, majorettes, pipe bands, rock bands, and all the attractions will provide all those who attend with a positive and enduring memory," she said.
