Fettes Music Maker Remembered
With the passing of Michael Lester-Cribb (Fettes Music Maker 49-88) in October 2006, George Preston (CW44-50 & Staff 55-91) launched an appeal to ensure that there was a lasting memorial to Michael. Joanne Armstrong (Staff 96-) had already set up plans to replace the existing grand piano in the Music School. It was therefore decided that a high quality piano would be both a most fitting memorial and a tremendous asset for the college.
During his fifty-seven years association with the school, Michael fostered the talents of outstanding pianists and organists, so it was no surprise when 170 fellow music makers raised over £30,000 which enabled the College to purchase a new Steinway grand piano.
Almost one year after Michael’s death, a concert unveiling the Steinway grand piano was held in the Music Room with Mrs Lester-Cribb as the guest of honour. Over one hundred pupils currently receive piano lessons, with the best of them encouraged to perform on the new Steinway.
Our thanks to everyone who generously contributed to the DMLC Memorial Fund.
