The Fettes Foundation

John C Lang, Foundation DirectorLet me start by thanking the 700 donors who have made gifts to the Foundation in the year ended, on 31 August 2007.  I am pleased to report that a grand total of £715,000 was received – a significant increase of 75% above the £410,000 in the previous year.

The Annual Report will give you an insight into the Foundation’s activities during the 2006 - 2007 financial year, as well as underlining the need for us to increase our efforts to help the College build its endowment fund for Scholarships and Bursaries as well to seek donations to help build new, important, facilities.

Throughout this site you will learn about some specific projects that have been funded thanks to donations.  These include the proposed new Indoor Rifle Range, the new Steinway Grand Piano, the new 6 lane outdoor Cricket Practice Facility, plus gifts to the College’s Scholarships and Bursaries Fund.

As you will read in the Headmaster’s letter, the College has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, which has involved huge capital expenditure, the majority which has been borrowed from banks.  Now that Craigleith House is open, all the boarding houses upgraded and the contract recently awarded for the expansion of the Preparatory School, we must turn our attention to the “Teaching Village”.

The Fettes Foundation has been established to ensure that the Legacy gifted by Sir William Fettes, which led to the opening of the School in 1870, is preserved and grows.  The Foundation's aim is also to expand substantially the funds available for scholarships so that many more pupils with potential may have the benefit of a Fettes education.

The Foundation relies for its funding on the generosity of its supporters, comprising Old Fettesians, current and former parents and the many friends of Fettes. Already almost £5 million has been gifted or pledged by our Founders, Patrons, Stewards and Donors.

Thank you again for your support of the Fettes Foundation.
