On behalf of the Trustees of the Foundation, which has just celebrated its tenth anniversary, I would like to thank the 780 donors who have made gifts in the year ended on 31 August 2008. Almost £580,000 has been received and many of the donors, I am delighted to say, are very regular supporters. Without this help and generosity the College would be unable to provide its wide array of Scholarships and Bursaries, nor a good number of important improvements and developments. In the last 12 months your gifts have helped in the following areas:-
- Scholarships & Bursaries
- Improvements to the Preparatory School
- Building of the new Indoor Rifle Range
- Heads of School Honours Boards
- Overseas Rugby and IB Service Tours
- Grand Piano rebuild
- War Memorial Fund and Statuette
I would like to make particular mention of the successful July Telethon, when 16 recent leavers enjoyed speaking to over 800 Old Fettesians all over the world. That gave us the chance to update a lot of you about the current state of affairs at Fettes.
My special thanks also to my 3 colleagues in the Foundation and Old Fettesian office for their hard work, particularly as we prepare for the ambitious fundraising programme to help the College to realise its vision for expanded and improved facilities, to complete the current Long Term Development Plan.
The Fettes Foundation has been established to ensure that the Legacy gifted by Sir William Fettes, which led to the opening of the School in 1870, is preserved and grows. The Foundation's aim is also to expand substantially the funds available for scholarships so that many more pupils with potential may have the benefit of a Fettes education.
The Foundation relies for its funding on the generosity of its supporters, comprising Old Fettesians, current and former parents and the many friends of Fettes. Already £6 million has been gifted or pledged by our Founders, Patrons, Stewards and Donors.
Thank you again for your support of the Fettes Foundation.
John C. Lang (Ca 62-67)
