Adam Edwards
Headmaster - Fettes Prep
I went to school at The Royal Grammar School, Colchester and then to London University where I studied History. My teaching qualification was obtained from Birmingham University, after which I embarked on my career at Gresham’s School, Holt. I was lucky enough to be able to eventually lead the History Department, become a Housemaster and Head of Boarding. I also coached all the major games, was a CCF officer and a D of E instructor and assessor. More significantly, this is where I met my wife Jill. We have four children, 3 boys and a girl. In 2003 we moved to Edinburgh and since then our lives have revolved around leading Fettes College Prep School.
My love of sport, the hills and history has given me a wider prospective which is invaluable when dealing with the everyday rigours of a busy and happy prep school.
Helen Harrison
Deputy Head and Teacher of Geography
MA in Geography from Cambridge University
Joined Fettes in 1996 and have been involved in all aspects of life at the school ever since. I love my Geography teaching but inevitably do less of that now as my role involves being in charge of the day to day running of the school. I really enjoy the very busy life that we lead at Fettes but when I do have free time I love to spend it with my family and our dog in the beautiful Scottish countryside.
Andrew Shackleton
Director of Studies and Teacher of Classics
MA Cambridge
I read Classics at Trinity College Cambridge so long ago I can only have missed Sir Isaac Newton by the slenderest of margins. After a period teaching at King Edward’s School, Birmingham, I joined the Classics Department at Fettes. I went on to become Head of Classics before being appointed Director of Studies and, most recently, IB Co-ordinator. Ergs are my bête noir.
Revd Dr David Campbell
Fettes College Chaplain
I am a long-time and quite amusing Irish exile, and have been the Chaplain of Fettes College since 2007 and I hugely enjoy being part of the family here. Whether leading chapel or in my other guise as Head of Religious and Moral Education in the Prep School, inclusion and understanding are just two of my many watchwords. An avid armchair sportsman now on account of age and infirmity, I still love rugby and lacrosse, and I’m glad when the men in green triumph. I am a convinced technophile and a very keen blogger on even the most mundane aspects of life.
