Mathematics

We are an energetic department committed to the teaching of Mathematics. We aim for our students to gain confidence and competence in the fundamental skills of Mathematics in order that they feel capable of tackling known, new and different problems.

We expect our pupils to aim high, to reach their full potential in examinations and to enjoy the study and practice of Mathematics.

Strong results

We consistently produce excellent examination results.

  • 67% A*/A at IGCSE
  • 75% A/B at A Level
  • 6.13 IB points in Higher Level Mathematics (Worldwide Average = 4.52)
  • 5.00 IB points in Standard Level Mathematics (Worldwide Average = 4.53)

The Courses

All pupils at Fettes study IGCSE Mathematics in the Third, Fourth and Fifth Forms (aged 13, 14 and 15). Mathematics is an essential life skill and it is vital that all pupils leave the school with a strong set of numerical skills.

Students in the Sixth Form can choose A Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics A Level or the International Baccalaureate at either Higher Level, Standard Level or Mathematical Studies Standard Level.

Competitions

The pupils also compete in a range of national Mathematical competitions.
