ICT
Skills in Information Communications Technology (ICT) are developed mainly through doing. At Fettes we have a campus-wide wired and wireless network and every Senior pupil has a personal laptop.
ICT across the curriculum
As the use of ICT grows in each academic subject at Fettes, so we move towards a seamless interface between using ICT and teaching and learning in the curriculum.
Confidence building
We intend that all students will leave Fettes with a very sound awareness of the skills and possibilities of ICT, confident in their ability to use rapidly-changing media at university and in their careers.
Starting ICT
There are basic skills in ICT that need to be taught. This process begins in the Prep School on the school network. The youngsters produce a range of vibrant project write-ups, including our excellent web news section and Busy Bees newsletter.
Using laptops
In Third Form all pupils receive instruction in the use of personal laptops through the Economics Department. In Fourth Form we certify these basic skills in the IAM Intermediate Award in ICT.
Specialist software
We also extend the range of skills in areas including desk top publishing, image manipulation and website design. In later years emphasis is on the use of specialist software within Departments.
