Organ Scholarships

Fettes College is able to offer a number of Music Scholarships on various instruments each year, but for 2007 we shall especially be seeking to find a suitable candidate for the Organ Scholarship, which falls vacant from September. Applications are invited through the College's existing Music Scholarship scheme from candidates who may be interested in this exciting opportunity. Candidates will normally enter the College in the Lower Sixth Form and spend two years as Organ Scholar whilst studying for a range of AS and A2 qualifications. Candidates should be at or above Grade 7 of the Associated Board or Trinity College Examinations at the time of the audition. It is not necessary for these qualifications to have been obtained formally, providing that the required standard has been reached. This Scholarship takes the form of a percentage of school fees and it also offers free tuition on the Organ from College Organist Duncan Ferguson, together with free tuition on one other instrument. The Organ Scholar is given the opportunity to play for Chapel Services here in the College, to accompany and to sing with the Chapel Choir and to play for all or part (depending upon individual strengths at the time) of major College events such as the Festival of Lessons and Carols, which is held in St. Mary's Cathedral, and at main School Concerts. The Scholarship is able to offer thorough training to candidates who may wish to apply for Organ Scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

The Director of Music, Mrs Joanne Armstrong, is happy to meet prospective candidates and their parents at any time. Further information and application forms are available from the Admissions Secretary, Mrs. Harriet Marshall, and applications for all Music Scholarships must be lodged with her by mid January 2008.

The present post holder is Dorothea Harris, who is in her second full year as Organ Scholar.
