It is our aim to create within the College a happy and successful boarding unit with a clear House identity; with a House spirit which is founded on, and values, common effort, comradeship and unselfishness; with a developed sense of awareness as a community; with high standards of behaviour and respect for others as well as for one’s self. We want every member of the House to feel valued and to be justifiably proud of being a Carringtonian as well as a Fettesian.
We aim within that community framework to help each member of the House to develop the best that is in him; to learn the value of academic endeavour, and more general striving; to approach these years of school life with a spirit of adventure and a willingness to try new activities and develop new skills and interests; to enrich himself from all that the school offers, and to enrich the school by his commitment to it; to develop a sense of responsibility to himself, his colleagues, his school and society at large, all founded, we hope, upon a sense of responsibility to his family.
We hope that you will leave Carrington a well-qualified, mature and confident young man, well equipped to face the future, thankful for his schooling and proud of what he gained from, and gave to, House and School.
We value close co-operation with parents and hope that they will be as much involved in their Son’s schooling and circumstances will allow. We welcome regular communication with them – in person if they happen to be in Edinburgh – and we are always delighted to be able to welcome them to concerts, plays, sports fixtures, and so on, as well as at Parents' meetings.
Carrington is your home during term time. We want you to be able to be relaxed and to have some sense of ownership here. As your Houseparents, my wife and I have overall responsibility for your welfare and we are answerable to your parents for your safety and happiness.
David Goodenough, Housemaster
