HMIe April 2009
Fettes College was confirmed as a ‘sector leading’ school within Scotland from the recent HMIe report with an outstandingly positive set of results. Within the 5 key categories Fettes received the maximum award of ‘excellent’ in four categories with the fifth section being a ‘very good’. In HMIe’s own words this equates to ‘outstanding, sector leading’.
We are incredibly proud of the HMIe results which reflect the emphasis we place on underpinning all we do at Fettes College with exceptional pastoral care.

Fettes is full of surprises. One of Scotland’s best boarding schools is tucked away in an unassuming suburb of Edinburgh. There at the top of the tree-lined drive perches the thrillingly gothic Hogwartsesque building and, despite being only a stone’s throw from the city centre, the school's grounds are sprawling; round one corner sits a ridiculously smart fitness centre; round the next a gleaming art block; through the trees are athletics tracks and sports pitches in abundance...
…The joy of Fettes is that it’s possible to get your As without the tears and tantrums. This isn’t a pressure-cooker yet still it manages to bag the best academic results in Scotland for A-levels, GCSEs and now the IB, year in, year out…The chirpy atmosphere at Fettes is infectious and is brilliantly summed up in the school’s funny and totally informative DVD.
