Building Developments
We firmly believe that Fettes College is in an excellent position to move forward with its ambitious plans for the future. Interest in the College has never been higher and our academic results secure our position as one of the leading independent schools in the United Kingdom.
The hugely successful investments during the last decade have paid handsome dividends on all fronts and the tremendous success of the new classroom block at the Prep School has confirmed the need for much improved Senior School facilities.
Fettes North - Inspiring Excellence in Learning
Planning permission for Fettes North has now been approved with the following comments made on the designs:
"The Panel is very supportive for this bold design approach which successfully mediates between the Anderson, Kininmonth & Paul and the A listed Bryce building. It was also recognised that this proposal has the potential to be excellent."
Edinburgh Urban Design Panel
"In conclusion we support this proposal, the applicant has shown that the introduction of a well-designed and considered new building can contribute to the historic environment, potentially becoming a valued addition for current and future generations."
Historic Scotland
Fettes North will take place in 3 phases. The first phase will see the creation of a new building for Languages, Maths, Humanities and a large Art department on the top two floors. Phase 2 will be the restructuring and conversion of the current North Building into a Music School with additional Geography and Economics classes. In these 2 phases we will have 22 new classrooms plus ICT suites and language labs.
Phase 3 will be the creation of a new Theatre and Drama studio.
In terms of timings, we are optimistically hoping to start work in 2013 with stage 1 & 2 finished 18 months after the start date. For stage 3, the exact timings are at the moment unknown. Obviously as we are a working school, and we require substantial funds, the project is phased for logistical and financial reasons.
Fettes North will significantly enhance the classroom experiences of our pupils by providing the space for excellence in learning and delivering spatial, technological and environmental improvements.
Before building can commence, we need to secure the philanthropic funds to realise the Governors’ vision. Significant donations are needed to lead the initiative to begin construction of the new classroom block.
