Physics

Why is the sky blue?
Did the apple hurt Newton?
What causes an echo?
When will our sun die?

Physics looks at these questions and the thousands of others that face us every day as we observe the world we live in. Physicists try to measure these phenomena and formulate laws and then theories to explain them and perhaps even to predict more interesting events. All our theories are 'disposable' so we have a never ending task!

The ages of pupils at Fettes College range from 8 to 18, a period of great change, so the courses offered at different ages must be suited to the age of their student and their abilities.  Physics at Fettes is essentially split into five different sections.  Initially pupils will encounter physics as part of a combined science course in the Prep School, after this, having moved into the senior school, they will all be taught GCSE Physics until the age of 16.  Pupils will then be faced with the choice between IB exams and English AS and A2 Levels

The Science Society

provides a forum for guest speakers, videos, discussion of books, visits and a science quiz nights.
