Drama
Drama should provide all pupils with opportunities
-
to reach new understandings and appreciation of self, others and the environment through imaginative dramatic experience;
-
to communicate ideas and feelings through language, expression and movement, in real and imaginary contexts;
-
to develop confidence and self-esteem in their day-today interaction with others;
-
to develop sensitivity towards the feelings, opinions and values of others through purposeful interaction;
-
to develop a range of dramatic skills and techniques.
At Fettes we aim to reach the stage as quickly as possible where Fettes College is known throughout the United Kingdom as a centre of excellence for Drama and Theatre Arts. To achieve this, we seek
-
to foster in all Fettesians a lively interest in Drama as a living part of our cultural heritage;
-
to mount productions of the highest possible standard while at the same time taking full cognizance of the educational potential of the rehearsal process;
-
through the Drama curriculum, to provide opportunities for our pupils to develop both practical skills (acting, directing, make-up, set and costume design, stage management, improvisation) as well as a critical awareness of the sorts of techniques, issues and problems associated with Drama activities;
-
to arrange and support frequent opportunities for all pupils to attend a variety of theatrical productions in other schools and on the public stage in Edinburgh and beyond, and to encourage an informed and appreciative response.
