The College Chapel
The chapel building is at the physical and spiritual heart of the Fettes community. It is a beautiful and tranquil place where for generations Fettesians have met, worshipped and reflected together.
Each school day begins there with a short act of worship and gathering for the middle and senior school.
Each Saturday in term time pupils, parents and staff from the Prep School meet there for their weekly service.
On Sundays the College Service is held. Often we are able to welcome preachers from the various Christian churches.
And the same is true of the major festivals in our year - Harvest, Remembrance Sunday, Commemoration, Christmas, Confirmation, Easter and Founder's Day.
The purpose of chapel is not to proselytise or to convert, nor only to offer a time for quiet and reflection each morning, but also in our context to educate, to inspire and to challenge. It is the only place where the whole Fettes community meets, where important news is shared, where stories are told and listened to and where laughter and tears may be common.
Each of our boarding houses takes it in turn to conduct morning chapels for one week each term. Often our students will as individuals share something close to their own lives and experiences.
There is no question that thanks to the faithfulness of many in the past Fettes is fortunate in its spiritual heritage. As we move forwards in this part of our common story we seek to build on that heritage in ways which are relevant for the 21st Century.
