Arniston House

Arniston is a House of 75 girls this academic year. It sits in its own grounds and was built in 1967. School life revolves around the boarding house and so it is particularly important that pupils feel part of all that goes on in House and that they are able to contribute to life in House as much as possible. Our aim is to ensure that Arniston feels as much like home during term time as we can achieve. We are a community within a larger school community and we aim to make our House a happy and enriching place to be.

Arniston is a caring community where every individual has a role to play in the successful running of the House - and that responsibility does not just lie with House staff or House Prefects but ALL of us. Each individual is given the opportunity to develop her full potential to become a rounded individual who will be equipped to deal with the world beyond Fettes College and more importantly be able to contribute something worthwhile to that world.

Within Arniston we aim to foster the key values of self-respect and respect for others, a real sense of social responsibility and a commitment to learning, thereby creating a sense of belonging both to Arniston and to Fettes. In particular, we like Arniston girls to develop an unselfish approach to those around them. It is all too easy to take advantage of opportunities and people without ever thinking beyond ourselves. We are proud that Arniston girls are aware at all times of those around them who might need encouragement or support and also have the grace and courtesy to thank those who help them.
