Scholarships and Bursaries
General Scholarships:
Scholarships up to the value of 25% of the fees are available to candidates aged 11+ for entry into the Preparatory School. Scholarships up to the value of 33% of the fees are available to candidates for entry into the Senior School at 13+, or into the Sixth Form at 16+. These awards can be supplemented by Bursaries (see below). Awards are made to candidates who demonstrate high ability and potential in one subject or in a group of related subjects as well as those who perform well in all subjects.
Music Scholarships:
Music Scholarships up to the value of 33% of the fees are available to instrumentalists. These awards can be supplemented by Bursaries (see below). Preference will be given to orchestral players and singers. Ex-choristers and brass players are particularly welcome. Exceptionally talented musicians can have reduced academic and/or games commitment to provide music practice time within the school day. The standard required at 13+ is normally at least Grade 5 on the main instrument. Candidates will be required to come for an audition during the first week in February 2008. The Director of Music will be pleased to meet parents of musical children at an earlier time.
Piping Scholarships:
Piping Scholarships up to the value of 33% of the fees are available to those who demonstrate an appropriate standard. These awards can be supplemented by Bursaries (see below). Candidates will be required to come for an audition.
Art Scholarships:
Art Scholarships of up to the value of 33% of the fees are available to candidates who have a special interest in and a genuine commitment to the subject. These awards can be supplemented by Bursaries (see below). Candidates will be assessed on the quality of their portfolio and their performance in a short practical test and will be interviewed by the Director of Art.
All-Rounder Awards:
All-rounder awards of up to the value of 33% of the fees are available to candidates who possess impressive all-round ability consisting of good academic potential and motivation coupled with other well-developed qualities and skills, such as leadership, responsibility, sense of service, sporting ability, music, art, drama and personality. These awards can be supplemented by Bursaries (see below). Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential to make a strong contribution to boarding life and will possess the character to exert a good influence on others. Candidates will be assessed on an individual basis and will be invited to make a two-day visit to the School when academic and other assessments will be made.
Bursaries:
Bursaries are available to the holder of any scholarship whose parents cannot meet the balance of the fees. The level of these awards depends upon parents' financial means and can cover up to the full value of the fees. Bursary awards are reviewed annually.
Special Bursaries (Todd) are available to descendants of Old Fettesians.
Children of members of HM Forces qualify for a 12.5% reduction in fees.
