Entry Procedure

Entry into the Prep School

Pupils may join the Prep School at any stage (ages 7-13). The Entrance Examinations and Assessments are held at Fettes in the February preceding entry although assessments can also be arranged at other times in the year. Scholarships are available for entry at 11+.

Entry at 13+

Applicants may enter by the Common Entrance Examination, the 13+ Scholarship Examinations or by the 13+ Entrance Examinations. Both the 13+ Scholarship and the 13+ Entrance Examinations take place at Fettes in the March preceding entry. The Common Entrance Examination takes place at other Prep schools in the June prior to entry in September. Those candidates sitting the 13+ Entrance Examinations take papers in English and Mathematics and they are also required to have two short interviews. Various scholarships and awards are available at 13+.

There are three girls' Boarding Houses and four boys' Boarding Houses, each admitting around twelve pupils a year. The Admissions Secretary can provide help with choosing an appropriate House. Houses often fill up at least two years ahead of entry.

Entry into the Sixth Form

The minimum entry requirement is passes in at least six GCSE subjects at Grade B or better, or the equivalent to this. The subjects passed must include English Language, Mathematics, a Science and a Language. The Scholarship and Entrance Examinations take place in November but entrance examinations can be taken, by arrangement, at other times of the year. A range of scholarships and awards is available for entry into the Sixth Form.

Entry is sometimes possible into other year groups. Furthers details are available from the Admissions Secretary.

Prospective pupils and their families are always welcome to visit the School by making an individual visit. This may be arranged through the Admissions Office. Families interested in admission to the School are requested to register on the registration form included with the prospectus package. Please click here to request a prospectus.
