Regolith
On the plateau, aside from tors and areas of high-level ice-moulding, the bedrock is generally masked by a cover of regolith. This debris mantle is of two broad types (Paine, 1982; Ballantyne, 1996):
- blockfields and block slopes, lacking in surface fines
- granular grit, with varying contents of blocks and fines
In additions, there are zones of deeper, gritty regolith associated with late-lying snow patches.
