CAS
Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)
The IBO’s goal is to educate the whole person and foster responsibility. The CAS requirement is that students share their energy and talents with others, beyond academic work. CAS activities should challenge and stretch the individual student. A minimum of 150 hours of participation over the two years in creative, physical and service activities is required (at least 50 hours in each element).
They may include things that you do already such as playing a musical instrument in a group, playing sports, art and drama and the Duke of Edinburgh service. The idea is that you give something back to the community. Almost everything you do can count towards the creativity and action. Service is often the most transforming aspect of CAS and is about doing something for others and with others.
Students at Fettes have been involved in a range of activities from work in charity shops, a local hospice and primary schools to an expedition to Costa Rica.
It is monitored through self-evaluations and the CAS Co-ordinator.
