IB Biology
The I.B. follows the I.B. Diploma Programme. Students may choose to take either the standard level (SL) and a higher level (HL). The course comprises of core topics with additional higher level material and optional topics. The students will be assessed with three theory papers contributing to 76% of their final mark and internal assessment of practical work which contributes 24% of the final assessment. Pupils will undertake 60 hours of practical work for the higher level and 40 hours for the standard level courses.
Core topics - cytology, bochemistry, genetics, ecology, evolution, human health and physiology.
Additional higher level topics - proteins, respiration, photosynthesis, genetics, human reproduction, immunity, neuromuscular system, excretion and plant science.
Options (SL) - diet and human nutrition, physology of excercise
Options (HL) - evolution, neurobiology and behaviour
