A2 Art

At A2 level students will develop their practical work and critical understanding within themes of their own choosing and with a high level of independence.

Each year a number of students are accepted onto courses at prestigious colleges of art and universities. The way that Art is taught has been revolutionised and, although there still remains some prejudice and misunderstanding about both the nature and value of the subject, it is more and more accepted as an academic subject in every sense. It is acceptable as a subject for the vast majority of courses at universities and is not simply a vocational subject.

Assessment for the A2 consists of three units of work.

Unit 4. Coursework (30%). Students will pursue a chosen theme, researching it fully, both practically and through in-depth references to the work of artists and/or crafts people.

Unit 5. Coursework (30%). Students will research a second theme of their own choice with a strong emphasis on contextual study into the work of artists and/or crafts people.

Unit 6. Controlled test (40%). Consisting of four weeks of preparation and a timed exam of fifteen hours.
